Irish-bred Santa Barbara made it 2-for-2 with a pair of Grade 1 wins in North America this year when taking the $400,000 Beverly D. Stakes at Arlington Park on Saturday.
Santa Barbara rated off pacesetter Mean Mary while saving ground throughout, angled out entering the stretch and finished fastest of all under Ryan Moore to win as the even-money favorite.
The final time for 1 3/16-miles on a turf course listed as good was 1:54.55. Mean Mary held for second and was followed by Lemista and Joy Epifora.
Owned by Coolmore and trained by Aiden O'Brien, Santa Barbara won last month's Belmont Oaks Invitational (G1) in her first North America start. She is a 3-year-old filly by Camelot.
