With a record breaking $20.4 million opening day handle this past Wednesday serving as a pretext, Santa Anita Park looks to finish the year strong on Monday, New Year’s Eve, as a $265,820 carryover in the 20-cent Rainbow Pick Six Jackpot brings added interest to an eight-race program that gets underway at 12:30 p.m. PT.

Santa Anita will ring in 2019 on Tuesday, with a 10-race card, highlighted by the Grade 3, $100,000 Joe Hernandez Stakes, which will go as the eighth race.

Special early first post time on Tuesday, New Year’s Day, is at noon.

With eight races on tap Monday, the Rainbow Six will begin with Race 3, which has an approximate post time of 1:33 p.m. With 55 horses entered in the sequence, average Rainbow Six field size for Monday stands at 9.1 runners per race.

With a carryover from Saturday of $196,943 and a Jackpot guarantee of $1 million serving as a pari-mutuel catalyst, there was $300,853 in “new” money wagered on Sunday, creating the Rainbow Pick Six Jackpot carryover of $265,820 into New Year’s Eve.
