A horse died Friday at Santa Anita after the third race, making the second fatality in two days for the track according to the California Horse Racing Board’s report.

On the CHRB report, the reason for the death of Fight On Ron, a 2-year-old American Freedom colt was “musculoskeletal.” According to the chart for the five-furlong turf race, the colt, trained by Peter Miller and ridden by Flavien Prat, was injured late in the race before being vanned off.

Fight On Ron was owned by Altamira Racing Stable, CYBT, Michael Nentwig and Roger H. Newman. He was last sold for $125,000 in the June 2-year-old sale at Ocala.

He had raced once previously, finishing third in a maiden race at Los Alamitos in September.

The death came just one day after another horse, an unraced 2-year-old filly named Seven Summers also died of a reported “musculoskeletal” issue, after being injured while training at the track.

The Misremembered filly was trained by Mike Puype. No horses died during Santa Anita's 2020 fall meet. There were 37 deaths at the track from Dec. 26, 2018, through the end of its 2019 fall meet, which concluded with the Breeders' Cup.
