Santa Anita scraps Saturday, Monday but will race Sunday
Santa Anita canceled racing on Saturday and Monday due to expected heavy rainfall in the area but plans to race as scheduled on Sunday.
Track management announced the cancellation of Saturday's races on Thursday and then scrapped the planned Monday card on Friday.
Santa Anita indicated it will run on Friday, Jan. 20, which was originally scheduled to be an off-day.
Santa Anita will be open as planned for live racing this Sunday, with first post time for an eight-race card, consisting of all main track races, at 12:30 p.m. PST.
The Grade 3, $200,000 La Cañada Stakes, originally scheduled for Saturday, will now be run on Sunday. The La Cañada, for fillies and mares at 1 1/16 miles, has been carded as Sunday’s seventh race, with assigned post time at 6:29 EST.
With sunny skies forecast next week, Santa Anita will run next Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with first post time each day at 3:30 p.m. EST.
Santa Anita management said the schedule changes were made in consultation with the California Thoroughbred Trainers, Thoroughbred Owners of California and the California Horse Racing Board.
