Santa Anita: Thought Process moves to dirt for Summertime Oaks
Grade 3 winner Thought Process switches to dirt for her first start since the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf and Cash Call, a dominant five-length allowance winner sprinting on May 18 at Santa Anita, stretches out in distance for her stakes debut in a competitive edition of the $200,000 Summertime Oaks (G3) going 1 1/16 miles Saturday at Santa Anita.
In the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf going a mile on Nov. 1 at Del Mar, Phil D’Amato-trained Thought Process set a fast pace under Hector Berrios and led at the eighth pole before weakening to ninth in a 14-horse field. Before the Breeders’ Cup, Thought Process won the Surfer Girl (G3) at Santa Anita and the Del Mar Juvenile Fillies Turf. Her only time racing on dirt was a third-place finish in her debut last July at Del Mar.
By Collected, Thought Process is campaigned by the estate of Brereton C. Jones and Little Red Feather Racing. Berrios again takes the call.
Cash Call is one of three in the field for trainer Bob Baffert. After going winless in two starts as a 2-year-old, Cash Call received a six-month vacation before returning to earn her diploma April 25 at Santa Anita. Three weeks later, she blew away the competition in the aforementioned allowance race going six furlongs.
By McKinzie, Cash Call was purchased for $600,000 at auction as a 2-year-old. She signaled her readiness for her stakes debut with a sizzling five-furlong bullet work in 58.60 seconds Sunday. Cash Call is 4: 2-1-1 with $94,080 in earnings for owner CSLR Racing Partners. Jockey Juan Hernandez, who has been aboard for all four previous starts, again has the call.
Our Moonlight, trained by Dean Pederson, was an eye-catching debut winner going six furlongs Dec. 27 at Santa Anita. She came back to be second by a length in six-furlong allowance when trying winners for the first time April 25.
By Tapit, Our Moonlight was purchased for $325,000 at auction as a yearling. She is owned by Lawrence T. Jett and Ann Jett. Jockey Tiago Pereira, who was aboard for both of her previous starts, again will ride Our Moonlight.
Joining Cash Call in the lineup for Baffert are stakes winner Silent Law and Howin.
Silent Law most recently was second in the Santa Anita Oaks (G2), finishing 2 1/4 lengths behind winning stablemate Tenma. In her only previous start this year, Silent Law finished third in the Santa Ynez going seven furlongs on Jan. 5. As a 2-year-old, she won the Anoakia Stakes at Santa Anita and was second in the Desi Arnaz at Del Mar.
Silent Law, by Tiz the Law, was a $400,000 auction buy last year and, like Cash Call, is campaigned by CSLR Racing Partners. She’ll be ridden by Kazushi Kimura for the first time.
Howin was third in the Santa Ysabel (G3) going 1 1/16 miles in her most recent start March 2. Previously, the $550,000 auction purchase by Gun Runner won her debut at a mile in October and was fourth in the seven-furlong Santa Ynez in January, both at Santa Anita. She’ll be ridden by Drayden Van Dyke for the first time.
