Seven older fillies and mares will match speed Sunday in the 44th running of the Grade III $100,000 Rancho Bernardo Handicap at six and one-half furlongs over Del Mar’s main track.
Co-featured on the ten-race program will be the $150,000 Solana Beach Handicap for older California-bred distaff runners at one mile on the infield Jimmy Durante Turf Course.
Carrying topweight of 122 pounds in the Rancho Bernardo will be Sam’s Sister, who will have leading rider Rafael Bejarano in the saddle. Her foes are Taris, 120 and Gary Stevens; Uzziel, 119, Kent Desormeaux; Baruta, 118, Flavien Prat; Wasted at Midnight, 118, Martin Garcia; Oscar Party, 116, Santiago Gonzalez, and Tesalina, 115, Mike Smith.
Doing battle in the Solana Beach will be a wide-open field of ten horses – Shysheisnot, Smoove It, Mangita, Journey On, Chati’s On Top, Heat Du Jour, Kathleen Rose, Chaulk O Lattey, Majestic Heat and She’s Flush.
The Rancho Bernardo is carded as the fourth race, while the Solana Beach occupies the ninth race slot on Sunday’s ten-race program. Post time for the first race is 2 p.m.
