Sadler Riding in Holiday Classic Horse Show
Bridging the gap between the racing world and the horse show world is the inaugural Trainer and Jockey Calcutta on Saturday, December 14 at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center. Jockeys and trainers such as John Sadler will navigate their mounts through a jumper course on Thoroughbreds, including multiple graded stakes winner Sarafan, who competed at the inaugural Thoroughbred Classic Horse Show.
High-profile trainers such as Sadler, Simon Callaghan, Kristin Mulhall, Jim Cassidy, Matt Chew, Carl O’Callaghan, Janet Armstrong, Adam Kitchingman and Emily Mode are set to compete against a field of jockeys that includes Chantal Sutherland-Kruse, Edwin Maldonado, Kayla Stra, Joe Steiner, Sophie Doyle and Joy Scott. Spectators will be able to buy a win ticket on their favorite team, and the pool will be split between the winning ticket holders and CARMA to continue funding the aftercare of Thoroughbreds.
This first-time-ever event will be covered by HRTV, the Network for Horse Sports. The December 14th evening event will feature a holiday cocktail party, the $1,500 Hess Equine Hunter Derby and the $1,500 Santa Anita Park Jumper Stakes.
The
Thoroughbred Classic Horse Show (TCHS) will conduct its third show of
the 2013 season on December 14 and 15, 2013, at the Los Angeles
Equestrian Center (LAEC) in Burbank, CA. Presented by the Siegel-CARMA
Foundation, the Thoroughbred Classic Horse Show spotlights retired
racehorses in their second careers as accomplished sport horses.
With
the success of the two previous shows this year, the TCHS has a rapidly
growing fan base of both show horse and race horse enthusiasts. The
LAEC, rich in tradition of offering world-class equestrian events,
offers an ideal location for the season finale. Spectators are always
welcome anytime during the show and admission is free.
In
addition to the Hunter Derby, Jumper Stakes and Dressage Challenge,
classes include Hunters, Jumpers, Equitation, Combined Training, In
Hand, Western Dressage, Western Pleasure and Gymkhana with champions
awarded in each division. Year-end Thoroughbred Incentive Program Awards
also will be offered.
“This series will go a long way towards shifting the way Sport-horse trainers and Race horse owners view the Thoroughbred and open up more opportunities for off-track Thoroughbreds to find second, or third, careers in new disciplines,” said Nicole Schwartz, Event Director for TCHS, “And that has always been a major goal for us.”
