SA Pick 6 Pool Could Reach $500,000
For the 21st time at the current meet, bettors failed to tab all six winners in the Pick Six, resulting in a carryover of $54,705 and the possibility of a total pool on Saturday of $500,000.
Saturday’s Pick Six will be comprised of races five through 10. With 67 horses scheduled to run, average field size in Saturday’s Pick Six is more than 10 horses per race.
Included among the Pick Six races are the $200,000 Evening Jewel, for 3-year-old fillies bred in California and the $200,000 Echo Eddie, for 3-year-old colts bred in the state. They will be run as the eighth and 10th races, respectively, and both will be contested at 6 ½ furlongs.
A field of 12 is set for the Evening Jewel, with Starlight Magic the 7-2 favorite on Jon White’s morning line. Starlight Magic, trained by Mark Glatt and to be ridden by Mike Smith, drew post position six.
A daughter of Marino Marini, Starlight Magic has been idle since winning the Cal Cup Juvenile Fillies at Santa Anita on Oct. 29.
Trainer Doug O’Neill sends out the 7-2 morning line favorite in the Echo Eddie, The Black, who comes off an impressive Starter Allowance score on March 4. The son of Cherokee Run will be ridden for the first time on Saturday by Garrett Gomez. The Black will break from the outside post position in a 12-horse field.
First post time on Saturday is 12:30 p.m. The Grade I, $300,000 Santa Anita Oaks, for 3-year-old fillies at 1 1/16 miles, will be run as the fourth race. The Bob Baffert-conditioned Eden’s Moon is the 3-5 morning line favorite.
Wagering on the Dubai World Cup races will be available Saturday morning at Santa Anita’s Top ’O the Stretch area beginning at 8:30 a.m.
