Zanim R. Meahjohn’s Rusty Slipper grabbed the lead near the 1/16th pole and held off the late charge of Overheard to capture the $100,000, Grade 3 Violet Stakes at Monmouth Park on Saturday by just over a length.

Trained by H. Graham Motion, Rusty Slipper went the mile and an eighth over “good” turf in 1:49 flat and returned $29.20, $10 and $6.40.  Overheard, who came with a wide run off the turn, completed the $106.20 exacta and paid $4 and $2.80.  Fasnacloich was another neck back in third, good for a $9.20 show mutuel.

“She took a good position early in the race,” said winning jockey Alex Cintron.  “Last time she was a little far back.  She finished good.  I had a lot of horse and when I called on her and she took off.”

A 4-year-old filly by Lemon Drop Kid from the With Approval mare Classic Approval, Rusty Slipper has won four of her seven starts, good for earnings of $128,014.
