Royal Ascot: Schedule, post times and where to watch
The prestigious Royal Ascot Festival outside of London kicks off Tuesday and will feature five consecutive days of top-caliber international racing. While there will be no fans allowed at this year’s meet -- which typically attracts more than 300,000 combined patrons, including an annual visit from Queen Elizabeth II -- races were added to this year’s slate to help lift the excitement.
A total of 36 races will be run during the five-day stand with seven set each day from Tuesday through Friday and culminating with an eight-race program on Saturday. There are 19 Group stakes on tap, including eight Group 1’s starting with The Queen Anne Stakes (G1) and The King’s Stand Stakes (G1) on Tuesday.
The entire Royal Ascot meet will be televised on TVG and wagering for U.S. customers will be provided on most of the major U.S.-based online platforms.
There will again be American representation at Royal Ascot this year, as trainer Graham Motion is set to run Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf winner Sharing in the Coronation Stakes (G1) on Saturday; and trainer Wesley Ward has a seven-strong raiding party on the ready.
Ward’s first runner will be on Wednesday with the 2-year-old Sheriff Bianco in the five-furlong Windsor Castle Stakes. Headlining Ward’s contingent is the 3-year-old multiple stakes-winner Kimari, who after running a close second in last year’s Queen Mary, will try the boys this time around in the six-furlong Commonwealth Cup (G1) for 3-year-olds on Friday.
