Royal Ascot 2019: Wednesday race results, payouts and replays
Wednesday's a big one at Royal Ascot with Wesley Ward's runners beginning in the opener, the Queen Mary Stakes, and the meet's strongest overall event, the Prince of Wales's, featuring with a Breeders' Cup Turf bid on the line.
American jockeys John Velazquez and Tyler Gaffalione will be in the saddle with the going termed "good to soft" as the weather continues to be a bit dreary in England.
"We are forecast possible further showers during the day but we were fortunate to miss most of the heavy showers overnight," said Chris Stickels, clerk of the course.
NBC Sports Network has full coverage of Wednesday's Royal Ascot races. Of course, evaluating these races is a bit different than our U.S. counterparts. But courtesy of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, here's a version of past performances and Royal Ascot handicapping.

Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes (9:30 a.m. ET)
Ward nearly had his 11th Royal Ascot victory with pace-setting Kimari, under jockey John Velazquez, just edged by Raffle Prize, with Frankie Dettori up, dueling on the near side of the course. Twenty 2-year-olds went postward as rain poured down over a good-to-soft course. Mark Johnston-trained Raffle Prize cut back from 6 furlongs, whereas Ward's filly came off a 4 1/2-furlong debut. "I suspect by the afternoon it will be soft," Dettori said of the turf conditions. Final Song filled out the board in third.
Raffle Prize: $84.60 / $16.20
Kimari: $3.40
Final Song: $3.50
$1 exacta: $263.40
Group 2 Queen's Vase (10:05 a.m. ET)
Dashing Willoughby, running in the center of the track, emerged from a three-wide stretch duel to nab Barbados and Nayef Road in this 1 3/4-mile turf feature. Those that ran on and near the lead stayed there throughout with Oisin Murphy aboard the winner, who’s trained by Andrew Balding. "He loved this ground," Murphy said with horses and jockeys coming back quite muddy on a rainy day at Ascot.
Dashing Willoughby: $13.80 / $4.30
Barbados: $16.80
Nayef Road: $11.20
$1 exacta: $151.30
Group 1 Prince of Wales's Stakes (10:40 a.m. ET)
Under an absolute downpour, that’s another for Dettori, who aboard Crystal Ocean held off an aggressive chase by Magical in the “Win and You’re In” race toward the Breeders’ Cup Turf. Magical shifted from out to in, looking like last year’s Turf runner-up might go on. But Crystal Ocean had enough in reserve in the 1 1/4-mile race hailed as the best of the Royal Ascot meet. Waldgeist stayed on for third. Sir Michael Stoute trains the winner.
Crystal Ocean: $8.20 / $2.50
Magical: $2.30
Waldgeist: $3.10
$1 exacta: $9.50
Group 2 Duke of Cambridge (11:20 a.m. ET)
Move Swiftly finished best in a tight finish with Rawdaa, while the favorite, I Can Fly, was up close late but faded in the final strides of this one-mile race for older fillies and mares. Daniel Tudhope rode the winner for trainer William Haggas, with the jockey picking up his third victory already this week at Ascot. "She traveled nice," said Tudhope, who expects Move Swiftly to improve considering she entered off a layoff dating back to Nov. 1.
Move Swiftly: $22.10 / $8.40
Rawdaa: $3.90
I Can Fly: $4.20
$1 exacta: $61.40
Royal Hunt Cup (12 p.m. ET)
As the afternoon winds down, this one-mile handicap split into two groups of runners, with those on the near side getting the edge. Afaak got a nose down ahead of Clon Coulis to win it. Jim Crowley rode the winner for Charles Hills with Raising Sand third in a massive field.
Afaak: $64.50 / $13.60
$1 exacta: $315
Windsor Castle Stakes (12:35 p.m. ET)
Maiden Southern Hills broke through for the combination of Ryan Moore and Aidan O'Brien. It wasn't meant to be for Ward's two runners. Wheels On Fire led on the far side of the course, but on the near side, Ward-trained Karak and Foolish Humor both took foreward positions. Neither lasted, with a tiring Karak actually coming in on his stablemate to cost him any shot at a late run. War has more bullets to fire this week, though.
Southern Hills: $13.70 / $4
Platinum Star: $7.20
Glasvegas: $19.30
$1 exacta: $77.80
