Shang Shang Shang, a Wesley Ward-trained daughter of Shanghai Bobby, held on for the first victory by an American-trained horse at Ascot this year in a tight photo over Pocket Dynamo. Jockey Joel Rosario was up on the filly, who was making her second start off a maiden win on debut April 28 at Keeneland. Shang Shang Shang broke alertly, ran to the lead and just managed to stay going five furlongs. The race offers a "Win and You're In" spot to the new Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint.
Shang Shang Shang: $8.40 / $3.80
Pocket Dynamo: $10.60
Land Force: $4.40
Exacta: $85.20

For horses that haven't yet won at the Group 1 or 2 level, this race offered the opportunity for a breakout performance, and we got it from Hunting Horn, who was much the best for the elite combination of trainer Aidan O'Brien and jockey Ryan Moore. "He travels well and quickens well," O'Brien said. That makes No. 50 at Ascot for Moore, who won this easily over Crossed Baton. Zaaki was third.
Hunting Horn: $11.80 / $4.40
Crossed Baton: $12.80
Zaaki: $9.60
Exacta: $115.40
Trifecta: $1,361.90
After winning the Hampton Court, his 50th Ascot win, Ryan Moore said he was already looking forward to No. 51. It took just minutes for the Moore-Aidan O'Brien duo to strike again on a chalky Thursday at Royal Ascot. Magic Wand sat just off the pace before making a strong move in the stretch of the 1 1/2-mile event for 3-year-old fillies. And the beat goes on...
Magic Wand: $7.80 / $3
Wild Illusion: $2.60
Sun Maiden: $3
Exacta: $13.30
Trifecta: $39.60
Thursday's featured race lived up to its billing, as for a moment the top three choices -- Stradivarius, Vazirabad and Order of St George -- lined up three across the track chasing Torcedor in the stretch. Favored Order of St George was squeezed out, tiring, before Stradivarius and jockey Frankie Dettori got the nod over Vazirabad and Christope Soumillon in a thriller. That makes 60 Ascot wins for Dettori, including six Gold Cup victories.
Stradivarius: $5.20 / $2.20
Vazirabad: $2.80
Torcedor: $6.80
Exacta: $9.90
Trifecta: $68.40
From a field of 33 -- congratulations if you picked a winner here -- Ostilio led nearly every step on the near side of the straight mile course. Sometimes it helps to avoid the traffic. Just when the pack closed inside the final 1/16 of a mile, jockey Silvestre De Souza appeared to extend the advantage heading into the wire. The victory gave Simon Crisford his first victory as a trainer at the Royal Ascot meeting. Crisford was formerly Godolphin's racing manager.
Ostilio: $10.60 / $3.60
Curiosity: $5.20
Magnificent: $69.60
Exacta: $137.80
