The public believed that Snowfall had finished third at 50-1, but that runner was actually Mother Earth. The real Snowfall finished eighth in an embarrassing mix-up that could lead to serious repercussions. Both runners have since been disqualified.

O'Brien's rough week started on Saturday, when all four of his Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe runners were withdrawn after they tested positive for a banned substance. O'Brien claimed the positives came from feed contamination.

"Unfortunately the results of the urine samples taken from the horses (Friday) have come back positive from the French laboratory," a Tweet from Ballydoyle Racing said Saturday night. "There is a possibility that the contaminant may have left their system by the time of racing (Sunday). However we have no guarantee of this, and in order to protect the integrity of racing, we have decided to withdraw all our horses from racing (Sunday)."

O'Brien hopes to turn his fortunes around by next Saturday, when he may saddle Magical and Love in the British Champions Stakes (G1) at Ascot.
