John Eaton and Steve Laymon’s Zeb responded to the urgings of defending jockey champion and current leader rider Rosie Napravnik and captured Sunday’s Fair Grounds’ feature, an allowance optional $35,000 claiming sprint contested at about 5 1/ 2-furlongs over the firm Stall-Wilson turf course, by a 3 1/2-length margin.

Trained by Greg Foley, Zeb gained the advantage in the lane of the $51,000 test, accomplished the distance in 1:03.96, increased his career earnings to $96,034 with his third win in 10 lifetime starts and paid mutuels of $11.80, $5.20 and $3.20.

John Stavropoulos’ Trelawny pressed the pace, gained the advantage briefly, could not withstand the winner when challenged but gamely held the place by a half-length from Louie Roussel III’s Santa, who cut out fractions of 22.34 and 46.40 before weakening late.

Trelawny paid $4.60 and $4 and Santa returned $5.60 to show.
