Panic Stable LLC’s Rose Brier pushed past pacesetter Short Shrift in deep stretch to post a neck victory in the $44,000 allowance/optional claiming feature at Monmouth Park on Friday afternoon as no lone ticket walked way with the Jersey Shore Six, which now sports a carryover of $74,299.80 for Saturday’s card.

Trained by Jane Cibelli, Rose Brier stepped the mile and a sixteenth over firm turf in 1:40 4/5 and returned $5, $3 and $2.80 as the favorite in the field of eight colts and geldings.  Short Shrift completed the $18.60 exacta and paid $3.40 and $3.  It was another head back to Saint Pierre, who rallied to pay $4.20 to show.

“I broke good,” said winning jockey Trevor McCarthy.  “I was hoping we would get a great trip and he tucked in behind the speed and waited.  It was a pocket trip the whole way around.  When I angled him out he dug in.  He’s very game, this horse.”

A 5-year-old gelding by Mizzen Mast from the El Gran Senor mare Mexicali Rose, Rose Brier has won seven of 18 lifetime starts.

Live racing continues at Monmouth Park on Saturday, Aug. 2 – gates open 11:30 a.m., first post 12:50 p.m.  The Jersey Shore Six will be on races seven through 12.
