Road to Kentucky Derby 2023: Standings after 15 points preps

Five horses were added to the Kentucky Derby 2023 leaderboard after Saturday's Grade 3 Holy Bull at Gulfstream Park.

The winner, Rocket Can, picked up 20 points and joined the leaderboard at No. 3. The second- through fifth-place finishers picked up 8-6-4-2 points, respectively. They are, in order, Shadow Dragon, West Coast Cowboy, Legacy Isle and Il Miracolo.

None of the horses had earned qualifying points before Saturday's race.

Another points prep on Saturday was the Robert B. Lewis (G3) at Santa Anita, where all four entrants were trained by Bob Baffert. Because of his suspension by Churchill Downs Inc., horses he trains are ineligible for Derby qualifying points. Unless Baffert wins his legal effort to have that suspension overturned, his must be transferred to other trainers by Feb. 28 to be eligible for Derby points.

The Withers (G3), another points prep, was scheduled for Saturday at Aqueduct but was canceled because of winter weather. That race now will be held this coming Saturday.

Other points races on Saturday are the Sam F. Davis (G3) at Tampa Bay Downs and the El Camino Real Derby at Golden Gate Fields.

Here is the complete, updated Kentucky Derby leaderboard.
