Arlington International Racecourse’s soon-to-be five-time leading trainer Larry Rivelli broke new ground Thursday when Mister Maestro scored in the day’s 10th race. The win was the 76th of the season for Rivelli, eclipsing Wayne Catalano’s previous single-season record of 75 wins in 2010.

Since saddling his first winner in 2000, Rivelli’s operation has grown steadily through the years, culminating in successive training titles at Arlington over the past three years. From a family of horsemen, Rivelli began working for his uncle, trainer Jimmy DiVito, after college. He trained his first graded stakes winner in 2008 with Strait of Mewsina in the Grade III Hawthorne Derby. Rivelli earned his first Arlington training title in 2011 with 39 wins and finished the 2016 season on top with 58 wins, including a score in the Grade III Arlington-Washington Futurity with Wellabled.

“This is my home so it’s great to do anything you do here with all these people,” Rivelli said. “It’s what I do.”
