Bravazo’s winning margin in HorseRacingNation.com's Horse of the Week poll measured a more comfortable distance from the runner-up than his nose, front-running victory over Snapper Sinclair last Saturday in the Grade 2 Risen Star Stakes. Now assured a 2018 Kentucky Derby starting spot, the D. Wayne Lukas-trained son of Awesome Again earned his first Horse of the Week nod, collecting 29 percent of the reader vote.
Other top vote-getters were Grade 3 Southwest Stakes winner My Boy Jack (24 percent) and the filly Paved (22 percent) off her victory over the boys in the El Camino Real Derby.
Yes, 3-year-old races are popular around here.
Campaigned by Calumet Farm, Bravazo will put in a final prep toward the Kentucky Derby in next month’s Louisiana Derby back at Fair Grounds. He’ll train toward the race under Lukas’ supervision in Arkansas while Miguel Mena, who was named to ride the day of the race, is expected to maintain the mount.
Said Lukas: “I'll pack him and the horse in Styrofoam and keep them under lock and key until the next race.”
