AHMED AJTEBI brought Rileyskeepingfaith (Mahmood Al Zarooni) with a sweetly timed run to record a 14-1 surprise victory in the Zabeel Mile, the Group 2 highlight of the final Dubai Carnival card before World Cup night at Meydan.
The five-year-old, bought out of Mick Channon's yard for 110,000gns at Tattersalls in the autumn, had made the frame on each of his three previous starts at this year's carnival.
However, on Thursday he was racing over a totally new trip, never having tried in excess of 7f, and also had a wide draw to overcome.
He did with élan, sweeping down the outside of Fareer to claim this $250,000 contest in decisive fashion, bringing Al Zarooni his ninth win of the 2011 carnival, where Ajtebi has four successes to his name.
