Right One Tries Polytrack in Commonwealth

Ghislaine Head’s Right One (FR), who made all seven of his starts in 2011 on the turf, returns to the main track Saturday when he takes on six rivals in the 26th running of the Commonwealth (G2) at seven furlongs.

The Commonwealth, won last year by Aikenite, will be run as the ninth race on Saturday’s 12-race program with a 5:13 p.m. post time.

Trained by Christophe Clement, Right One won the Jaipur (G3) at seven furlongs in July at Belmont Park and finished third beaten only a neck by Turallure in the Woodbine Mile (G1). Garrett Gomez, who was aboard in the Woodbine Mile, has the call Saturday on Right One, who will break from post position two.

The other graded stakes winner in the field is Peter Redekop’s Comedero, trained by Michael Stidham.

A 5-year-old Arkansas bred, Comedero is an 11-time winner in his 18-race career that includes a score in the Chick Lang (G3) at Pimlico in 2010. Winner of the Nodouble Breeders’ Cup at Oaklawn Park in his lone 2012 start, Comedero will break from the inside post under James Graham.

The field for the Commonwealth, from the rail out, is as follows: Comedero (Graham, 118 pounds), Right One (FR) (Gomez, 118), Plutonium (Kent Desormeaux, 118), El Gran Sol (Marcelino Pedroza Jr., 118), Lonesome Street (Joel Rosario, 118), Philippe (Julien Leparoux, 118) and Bergerac (Javier Castellano, 118).
