Retired trainer Art Sherman wins as an owner at Oaklawn Park

Retired trainer Art Sherman, who guided California Chrome to a win in the 2014 Kentucky Derby, picked up a win as an owner on Friday when Acting Out scored in a moneyed allowance in the snow at Oaklawn Park.
Previously trained by Sherman, Acting Out was making his first start for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer in the six-furlong event. Sent off the 5-1 third choice in a five-horse field, Acting Out seized the early lead under Martin Garcia and held on to win by a neck over even-money favorite Joy's Rocket.
Acting Out was making her 5-year-old bow and first start since last July. In 2021, the Blame mare was 0-for-5 with two seconds in the allowance and listed stakes ranks. Acting out is also co-owned by Zvika Akin and Robert Harkins.
Sherman, 84, retired from training at the end of 2021 with 2,261 career wins and earnings of $45,316,783. Prior to his training career, Sherman was a jockey and also was the exercise rider of 1955 Kentucky Derby winner Swaps.
In addition to California Chrome, Sherman also trained multiple Grade 1 winner Siren Lure, Ultra Blend, Haimish Hy and Lang Field.
