Rescue Plan, a front-runner most of his career, rallied from last place to score an exciting victory Saturday in the $10,900 Coors Miller Purse for older horses at Emerald Downs.
Under a clever ride by Gallyn Mitchell, Rescue Plan overcame a slow start and reeled in the leaders late for a three-quarter-length victory in 1:03.71 for 5 ½ furlongs. Trained by Roy Lumm for Blue Diamond Stable and Janet Johnson, Rescue Plan paid $8.40, $4.20 and $3.40.
Hi and Goodbye, the 9-to-5 betting favorite ridden by Joe Crispin, finished second and paid $3.80 and $2.80. Chet the Jet, a 16-1 long shot ridden by Deborah Hoonan-Trujillo, finished third and paid $6.20.
