Reports: Jockeys Melancon, Carroll will retire this weekend
Jockeys Gerard Melancon and Declan Carroll will retire after their Sunday mounts at Fair Grounds.
Daily Racing Form reported that Melancon, 56, will Melancon will become a jockey agent, representing Joe Stokes and apprentice Marlon Del-Cid in
the upcoming meet at Evangeline Downs.
Melancon, who began riding in 1984, has 5,117 career wins from 32,899 starts and earnings of $91.1 million. This year, he has a record of 54: 6-3-4.
He is entered to ride in a maiden-claiming race Thursday, with five mounts on Friday, one on Saturday and his final mount on Sunday aboard Good N Sassy in a maiden special weight.
BloodHorse reported that Carroll, 23, will join trainer Cherie DeVaux's bloodstock operation, which she runs with husband David Ingordo.
Carroll began riding in 2018 and has a career record of 2,058: 207-246-219 and earnings of $8.8 million. His record this year is 19: 1-3-2.
He is entered to run one more race at Fair Grounds, an optional-claiming allowance Sunday on McAvoy for trainer Mark Casse.
