Report: Up to the Mark will stand at Lane's End upon retirement
Up to the Mark, a two-time Grade 1 winner this year, will stand at Lane's End Farm upon his retirement.
The stud plans were reported Monday by Eric Mitchell of BloodHorse. No final race was reported for Up to the Mark, who remains in training. Trained by Todd Pletcher, he is entered in the Keeneland Turf Mile (G1) on Saturday.
Up to the Mark tried Grade 1 company for the first time at Keeneland in April when he ran third behind Chez Pierre in the Maker's Mark Mile (G1). He followed that up with a victory in the Turf Classic (G1) on the Kentucky Derby undercard on May 6, and then another win in the Manhattan (G1) during the Belmont Stakes undercard on June 10.
A 4-year-old colt, Up to the Mark is a son of Not This Time. Not This Time won the Iroquois (G3) in 2016 and finished second in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile that year. His other top-level winners aside from Up to the Mark include Travers (G1) winner Epicenter, Golden Shaheen (G1) winner Sibelius, Madison (G1) winner Just One Time and Del Mar Debutante (G1) winner Princess Noor.
He comes from a female family that has stakes form on both dirt and grass. His second dam is Capote Belle, who won the Test (G1) in 1996. His dam is an unraced full sister to Zapper Belle, a stakes winner and Grade 3-placed on grass, and he is also from the extended family of multiple G2-winning turf horse Catapult and stakes-winning dirt sprinter Ha Ha Tonka.
