Report: Uncaged is a possibility for Belmont Stakes
Uncaged, who was sixth in the Grade 3 Peter Pan last out, is under serious consideration for the Belmont Stakes, co-owner Mike Repole told David Grening of Daily Racing Form.
Luis Saez would have the mount, Grening wrote in an X post.
Uncaged, trained by Todd Pletcher, has two wins from four career starts. The Curlin colt won his debut at Saratoga in August in his only start as a 2-year-old. He returned in March with a fourth-place finish in an optional-claiming allowance at Gulfstream Park, then won an optional claimer in April at Aqueduct. The Peter Pan was his first stakes appearance.
Belmont Stakes fair odds: Battle of classic winners favors a spoiler
Repole Stable bought Uncaged for $450,000 at the Keeneland September yearling sale, and the colt now is co-owned by WinStar Farm.
Uncaged would join a field that is expected to include Kentucky Derby winner Sovereignty, Baeza, Rodriguez, Hill Road and Heart of Honor. Preakness winner and Derby runner-up Journalism also is a possibility but has not been confirmed.
Pletcher told the New York Racing Association media team that Crudo, winner of the Sir Barton Stakes last out, has not been ruled out for the Belmont.
