Report: Tiago Pereira will miss 8 weeks after Del Mar spill
Tiago Pereira reportedly will miss riding assignments until this fall after he was hurt in a spill Saturday at Del Mar.
Jockey agent Craig Stephen told Daily Racing Form’s Steve Andersen that Pereria will be out “for at least eight weeks.” Pereira, 48, was scheduled to have surgery Sunday to repair his right eye socket and jaw bones.

Pereira was riding maiden winner Origami in the turn of an $80,000 turf-sprint allowance when the 3-year-old filly clipped heels trailing Border Control. When Origami fell, so did Pereira, who was hit by Special Look as the field ran past him.
O’Neill said Origami was not hurt. She was taken off the track via equine ambulance.
Arriving for good in 2014 from his native Brazil, Pereira has had 6,394 starts in the U.S. and Canada. He has 772 wins and $37,009,256 in earnings highlighted by Grade 1 victories with Tripoli in the 2021 Pacific Classic and Macadamia in the 2023 Gamely. The biggest victory of his career came with Gloria de Campeão in the 2010 Dubai World Cup (G1).
