Super Quick, a 5-year-old mare trained by Norm Casse, suffered a fatal breakdown Sunday in the Groupie Doll Stakes at Ellis Park.

Daily Racing Form reported that the breakdown occurred near the finish of the race, which was won by Li'l Tootsie.

Super Quick, with Joe Talamo riding, led the field through the opening half before Li'l Tootsie took the lead near the quarter pole, according to the report. Super Quick was racing along the inside when she went wrong in a foreleg near the wire in fourth place. She was vanned off and required euthanasia. No other horses or riders were involved, according to the report, and Talamo was not injured.

Super Quick, a homebred of the late Marylou Whitney, was a daughter of Super Saver out of Quick Town. She had a career record of 13: 4-2-2 and earnings of $423,649.

She broke her maiden last fall at Churchill Downs after five previous attempts and closed out the year with two allowance wins. Her first stakes start was in the Doubledogdare (G3), where she finished third. Then she won the Allaire DuPont (G3) and finished second in the Fleur de Lis (G2) before her Groupie Doll start.
