Kendrick Carmouche has been given a five-day suspension for his ride on Phileas Fogg in the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup at Saratoga on Sunday.

Carmouche has three days to decide whether to appeal according to David Grening of Daily Racing Form, who reported the suspension Monday. Carmouche would have to serve the suspension at the beginning of the 2026 meet at Saratoga.

Under Carmouche, Phileas Fogg cut in sharply in the opening strides of the Jockey Club Gold Cup. That caused a chain reaction inside of him. Jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. was knocked off balance while riding Mindframe, was briefly on top of White Abarrio directly to his outside, fell to the track, and fell in the path of Sierra Leone. Edgard Zayas, riding White Abarrio, was also knocked off balance in the chain reaction and lost an iron according to the Equibase chart but managed to retain aboard.

Phileas Fogg chased runaway pacesetter Contrary Thinking before making the lead approaching the quarter pole. He crossed the wire third after failing to hold off Antiquarian or Sierra Leone in the final furlong, but was disqualified to last after stewards reviewed the race. White Abarrio crossed the wire fifth, eight lengths behind Antiquarian, who managed to avoid the early snarl. Mindframe was apprehended by the outrider after the race and walked off the course. Ortiz is expected to return to riding Thursday at Kentucky Downs.
