Training, stabling at Pleasanton will end March 25

The California Authority of Racing Fairs will end all Golden State Racing stabling and training operations at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton when its vanning and stabling contract concludes March 25.

In a news release Thursday, CARF said it "recognizes the significance of this transition for those directly affected and remains committed to assisting in this transition."

Earlier this week, CARF said it would not go forward with its traditional summer and early fall meets, which followed an announcement that CARF directors voted unanimously not to apply to the California Horse Racing Board for the usual dates from June to October for Pleasanton, Sacramento, Ferndale and Fresno. CARF said in its news release Thursday that executive director Larry Swartzlander would retire, effective Tuesday.

CARF said it is reorganizing to focus on supporting California fairgrounds and their satellite wagering operations.

"This shift aligns with CARF’s commitment to ensuring the long-term viability of its member fairgrounds and their role in the broader horse racing industry. Moving forward, during this reorganization period the day-to-day operations of CARF will be managed by the CARF Executive Committee."
