Sahin Civaci, winner of the Sovereign Award as last year's outstanding jockey in Canada, was injured in a race Thursday and will miss about one month of riding.

Agent Mike Sellitto told Paulick Report that Civaci has hairline fractures in two vertebrae, not near the spinal cord.

Civaci lost his mount on 4-year-old filly Despo's Dream when she stumbled coming out of the gate in the seventh race at Aqueduct. Sellitto said Civaci fell to the ground head first and that the fractures were discovered when an MRI was done at Jamaica Hospital.

Despo's Dream, trained by Linda Rice, followed the field without a rider, was apprehended by an outrider and walked off the track, according to the Equibase chart.

Civaci recently announced that he would move to the New York circuit from Woodbine, according to Paulick Report.

Civaci has 111 wins from 564 starts this year and earnings of $5.3 million.
