Jockey Ryan Moore will miss several months of rides after being diagnosed with a fractured right femur.

Moore's injury was previously reported Saturday by David Jennings of Racing Post, and Aidan O'Brien also discussed the injury in an interview with Racing TV. Moore had been named on five horses at the Curragh on Saturday, but was taken off of those mounts before O'Brien revealed the extent of the injury.

He most recently rode Sunday at Deauville in the Prix Morny (G1), where he finished second beaten a head on Gstaad and the Prix Jean Romanet (G1), where he finished fifth beaten 2 1/2 lengths with Bedtime Story. He had three wins during the Ebor festival at York on Aug. 21 through last Saturday, including the Yorkshire Oaks (G1) with Minnie Hauk.

The injury is expected to keep him out of the major meetings through the autumn including the St. Leger at Doncaster, the Irish Champions festival at Leopardstown and the Curragh and the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at ParisLongchamp. This puts Aidan O'Brien's first- and second-call riders on the sidelines for the St. Leger and Irish Champions festivals, as Moore rides first-call and Wayne Lordan will be serving a suspension that weekend for one of his rides at Goodwood last weekend.

With the Breeders' Cup two months away, the timing suggests he will likely miss that meeting as well. Moore has won 16 races at the Breeders' Cup. That ties him with Joel Rosario for fourth all time, behind only Mike Smith, John Velazquez and Irad Ortiz Jr. Moore won two races at the 2024 Breeders' Cup, the Juvenile Turf with Henri Matisse and the Juvenile Fillies Turf with Lake Victoria.
