Add Risk Taking to the list of new shooters taking on the May 15 Preakness Stakes.

The Withers Stakes (G3) winner will scratch from Saturday’s Peter Pan Stakes (G3) at Belmont Park and instead head to Pimlico. Jockey Jose Ortiz will get the mount on Risk Taking in the Preakness, according to the Pimlico publicity team.

Risk Taking was a 3 3/4-length winner of Aqueduct’s 1 1/8-mile Withers on Feb. 6. Trainer Chad Brown skipped the one-mile Gotham Stakes (G3) on March 6 in favor of the 1 1/8-mile Wood Memorial (G2) on April 6, but the Medaglia d’Oro colt finished seventh that day over a sloppy Aqueduct track.

The Klaravich Stables runner Risk Taking has worked three times at Belmont since the Wood Memorial, most recently breezing five furlongs last Saturday in 1:00.34. He was installed this week as 7-5 morning-line for the Peter Pan, the major local prep for the June 6 Belmont Stakes.

Risk Taking will join Crowded Trade, another Klaravich-owned Brown trainee, in the Preakness. The More Than Ready colt was second in the Gotham, then third in the Wood Memorial.

Brown won the 2017 Preakness Stakes with Cloud Computing, who was owned by Klaravich and William Lawrence.

Crowded Trade and Risk Taking join Concert Tour, France Go De Ina, Ram, Rombauer and Unbridled Honor as new shooters pointing to the Preakness Stakes. Kentucky Derby hero Medina Spirit, Keepmeinmind and Midnight Bourbon are the only Derby runners currently probable for the Triple Crown series’ second leg.
