Multiple graded stakes winner Prince Lucky continues to make progress as he recovers from surgery to repair his injured right front leg.
Trainer Todd Pletcher's barn reported Friday via Twitter that the newly turned 5-year-old gelding is out of the hospital after suffering multiple sesamoid fractures in his final career start.
Prince Lucky was pulled up by jockey John Velazquez in the early stages of the Harlan's Holiday Stakes (G3) on Dec. 14 at Gulfstream Park. The son of Corinthian, owned by breeder Daniel McConnell, underwent successful surgery to repair the injury at Ocala Equine Hospital.
On Friday, Prince Lucky was discharged from the equine clinic and transported to Payton Training Center, where he will continue his recovery.
Prince Lucky, who won the Hal's Hope (G3) and Gulfstream Park Mile Stakes (G2) in 2019, carried aspirations of qualifying for the Pegasus World Cup (G1) into the Harlan's Holiday. While he won't race again due to injury, Friday's news was a positive development toward him living out a happy, healthy retirement.
Prince Lucky's career ended with seven wins in 16 starts as he accumulated $607,570 in earnings.
