Report: Potente, Chip Honcho will skip Belmont Stakes

Potente and Chip Honcho will not run in next Saturday's Belmont Stakes, Steve Byk announced on his "At the Races" program Wednesday.

Byk said he confirmed the decisions with Chip Honcho's trainer Steve Asmussen and Potente's trainer Bob Baffert.

Potente earned 100 Kentucky Derby points from his win in the San Felipe (G2) and second-place finish in the Santa Anita Derby (G1) in his second and third career starts. The Into Mischief colt, who sold for $2.4 million as a yearling, finished 12th in the Kentucky Derby and did not run in the Preakness.

Chip Honcho was third in the May 16 Preakness Stakes and is 0-for-4 this year. The Connect colt had 49 points on the Kentucky Derby leaderboard from his win in the Gun Runner, fourth-place finish in the Lecomte, runner-up effort in the Grade 2 Risen Star and fifth-place finish in the Louisiana Derby (G2), but he did not run for the roses at Churchill Downs.
