After Alluring Star debuted as a winner, it took standout efforts from Moonshine Memories (Chandelier Stakes) and Caledonia Road (Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies) to beat her. But the filly won’t get her shot to break through in Grade 1 company this week.

The Daily Racing Form reported the Juvenile Fillies runner-up will miss Saturday’s $300,000 Starlet Stakes at Los Alamitos. Trainer Bob Baffert told DRF Alluring Star, purchased as a 2-year-old for $850,000, had an elevated temperature.

A daughter of Exchange Rate, she sized up as a possible favorite for the 1 1/16-mile race, run on the same card as the Grade 1 Los Alamitos CashCall Futurity for the boys. And so a short Starlet field was reduced with possible runners including Baffert-trained Dream Tree, Exuberance, Miss Mo Mentum, War Heroine and Yesterday’s News.

Entries were to be taken Wednesday.
