Report: Pletcher points Nest to Beldame for next start
Nest, the nation's leading 3-year-old filly, is pointed to the Grade 2 Beldame at Aqueduct for her next start.
Daily Racing Form reported that trainer Todd Pletcher acknowledged the risk of racing 27 days before the Breeders' Cup.
But her last start was a win in the Alabama (G1), 11 weeks out from the Breeders' Cup, and Pletcher noted that the Alabama was 28 days after Nest won the Coaching Club American Oaks (G1).
“I think it’s one of those situations you can think about 100 different ways and she’s just so good probably whatever you do is OK,” Pletcher told DRF.
Nest has won four of her six starts this year, also taking the Ashland (G1) in April and the listed Suncoast in January. She was second to Secret Oath in the Kentucky Oaks (G1) and to Mo Donegal in the Belmont Stakes.
The Curlin filly has been working at Belmont Park, breezing five furlongs in 1:01.21 on Sunday.
