Two horses who had been listed Sunday as probable to start Saturday in $1 million stakes at Parx were denied entry Monday, according to a Thoroughbred Daily News report Monday.

Carry Grant and Molly Malone, both owned by Salvatore Rizzo’s JR Jewel Stables and trained by Daniel Siculietano, were regarded by track racing officials as being out of their league trying to compete in the Grade 1 races.

“They said they’d be taking both horses out of their races because they don't fit in these races,” Siculietano told TDN’s Bill Finley. “They’re probably right that they don’t fit.”

Carry Grant, a 3-year-old Brody’s Cause colt who was nominated for the Pennsylvania Derby, is 0-for-8 with two runner-up finishes, the most recent coming Aug. 31 in an $18,500 maiden-claiming sprint at Delaware Park. He was eased in one race and lost by an average of nearly 12.5 lengths in the other seven.

Molly Malone, a 3-year-old Mendelssohn filly who was being aimed for the Cotillion Stakes, broke her maiden in April on her 12th try. After a four-month break and a switch of barns, she came back to finish sixth Sept. 7 in a $17,000 claiming sprint, also at Delaware Park. She has lost 12 times by an average of 14 lengths.

Rizzo transferred both horses to Siculietano this summer from their original trainer Ilias Tapsas.

Siculietano told TDN that Rizzo was motivated to enter the two horses, because even last-place finishes would have netted $19,000 after subtracting fees from both races.
