Owen Almighty, second behind John Hancock in the Sam F. Davis at Tampa Bay Downs on Feb. 8, will make one more two-turn start before cutting back to one turn for his spring campaign.

Trainer Brian Lynch plans to run him back in the Tampa Bay Derby (G3) on March 8, according to a report from David Grening of Daily Racing Form.

Lynch told Grening that Owen Almighty has trained well since the Sam F. Davis, and this would give him another race over a track where Owen Almighty already has run well in two races. Before his second-place run in the Sam F. Davis, Owen Almighty crossed the wire first in the one-turn Pasco, though he was disqualified to fifth for interfering with a foe going into the turn.

Lynch still plans to cut Owen Almighty back in distance in the spring. After the Sam F. Davis, Lynch cited the Pat Day Mile (G2) as a spring goal, and he plans for that to be Owen Almighty's next start after the Tampa Bay Derby.
