Grade 1 winner One in Vermillion has been retired after surgery for a fetlock injury.

Daily Racing Form reported that the injury occurred on Nov. 2 during a workout at Zia Park. Owner Jonathan Kalman told DRF that no stud deal for the 3-year-old colt has been finalized.

One in Vermillion, a son of Army Mule out of the Any Given Saturday mare Given Star, was purchased by Kalman as a yearling for $26,000.

Trained by Esteban Martinez, he has a career record of 12: 6-3-1 and earnings of $653,840.

His biggest win came in his most recent race, the H. Allen Jerkens (G1) in August at Saratoga. Sent off at odds of 19-1, One in Vermillion gained the lead after New York Thunder suffered a catastrophic injury in the stretch.

Other stakes wins came in the listed Lazaro Berrera at Santa Anita in May, the black-type Riley Allison Derby at Sunland Park in January and a juvenile stakes at Turf Paradise last December.
