Report: Gaming Commission to hold hearing on Rice's license

The New York State Gaming Commission has scheduled a hearing for Dec. 18 to determine what course of action might be taken against trainer Linda Rice due to alleged actions considered “detrimental to the best interests of racing generally and corrupt and improper acts and practices in relation to racing.”

After a notice of the hearing was published to the Commission's website, the Daily Racing Form reported Sunday that the NYSGC will determine whether to possibly suspend or revoke Rice’s license.

While the official statement from the gaming commission did not specify what “improper acts and practices” Rice is accused of, state steward Braulio Baeza confirmed to the Form’s David Grening that the acts involved “alleged payments to racing officials at New York Racing Association tracks in exchange for information regarding races in which Rice would consider entering horses before she entered.”

The timeframe runs from “on or about the 2011-12 Aqueduct race meeting through March 2015.”

Rice, who has sent out 1,955 winners during her career, has continued to deny any wrongdoing and said she looked forward to meeting state regulators.
