Mystic Guide, last year's Dubai World Cup winner who had been preparing for a comeback at Fair Grounds, has been taken out of training and his racing career could be over.

Daily Racing Form's Marcus Hersch reported Friday that trainer Michael Stidham was not satisfied with how Mystic Guide came out of his most recent work and the decision was made to "slow back down on him.

"We don't know for sure whether we're going to continue on with him or not," Stidham told DRF. "His future to continue racing is on hold for now."

Mystic Guide has not raced since finishing second in last June's Suburban (G2). Last month, he had a pair of three-furlong breezes at Fair Grounds with the most recent coming on Dec. 26. The 5-year-old son of Ghostzapper had been preparing for an attempted title defense in the rich Dubai World Cup on March 26.

If Mystic Guide's racing career is over, he would figure to stand this year's breeding season for owner-breeder Godolphin. Mystic Guide boasts a top-class pedigree being out of Music Note, a multiple Grade 1-winning daughter of A.P. Indy. In nine starts on the track, Mystic Guide has a record of 4-3-2 with his two other graded-stakes wins coming in the 2020 Jim Dandy (G2) and last year's Razborback Handicap (G3).
