The Chosen Vron, the California-bred horse of the year in both 2023 and 2024, has been retired.

A follow-up MRI after an ankle injury that he suffered last year showed that the issue had not healed enough to return the 7-year-old gelding to training, according to a report Monday by Tracy Gantz of Blood-Horse. Trainer Eric Kruljac told Blood-Horse that he would go to Katie Fisher's ranch in Solvang, Calif. to continue his rehabilitation. He attributed the decision to retire to "wear and tear" as well as the desire not to risk further injury.

The Chosen Vron raced his entire career for owners Kruljac, Robert Fetkin, John Sondereker and Richard Thornburgh, who also bred him in the name of Tiz Molly Partners. He retires with a 25: 19-2-2 record and $1,709,678 in career earnings. After his debut win in a California-bred maiden special weight in December of 2020, he ran exclusively in stakes company. His wins include a pair at the top level, in both the 2023 and 2024 editions of the Bing Crosby (G1) at Del Mar.
