Mr. A. P. will miss Kentucky Derby trail after setback
Breeders' Cup Juvenile runner-up Mr. A. P. will miss the Kentucky Derby trail after a setback.
Trainer Vladimir Cerin hopes that the son of American Pharoah will be ready to return at the end of March, according to a report Saturday from Brad Free of Daily Racing Form. Cerin did not disclose details of Mr. A. P.'s issue, though he said an issue was diagnosed and resolved but he needs more time to recuperate.
Mr. A. P. debuted for a $150,000 tag at Del Mar for trainer Hector Palma. New owners Holly and David Wilson claimed him out of that runner-up finish and he went to Cerin's barn. He ran second to Bob Baffert trainee Kristofferson in a maiden special weight at Del Mar in his first start for Cerin and then graduated in October at Santa Anita in a maiden special weight dirt mile Oct. 13. He finished his season with a second-place finish in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, beaten a length by Ted Noffey.
