Report: Mindframe is sidelined with bone bruising
Mindframe will be out of action for at least two months because of bone bruising.
Co-owner Mike Repole told Daily Racing Form that he and trainer Todd Pletcher probably would not have pointed him to the Grade 1 Travers anyway after four races in 3 1/2 months.
Mindframe won his March 30 debut and his next start in an optional-claiming allowance on the Kentucky Derby undercard. He then was second by a half-length to Dornoch in the Belmont Stakes and second by 1 1 /4 lengths to the same rival in the Haskell (G1).
The Constitution colt is at a farm in Ocala, according to the DRF report, and could return in a December race as a prep for the Pegasus World Cup (G1).
Repole told DRF he is considering running Fierceness in the Aug. 24 Travers. The City of Light colt, also trained by Pletcher, won the Jim Dandy (G2) on Saturday, continuing his win-lose-win pattern after finishing 15th as the favorite in the Kentucky Derby.
The timing of the Travers would give Fierceness 10 weeks to prepare for the Breeders' Cup Classic.
“We’re hoping to run fourth beaten 12 (in the Travers) and then win the Classic by seven lengths," Repole told DRF. "Seriously, at the end of the day if he runs fourth or if he wins it wouldn’t shock us.”
