Maldonado had been scheduled to ride in four of the nine races carded Saturday at Santa Anita.

Tied for fourth in the current Santa Anita rider standings, Maldonado, 40, has a record of 15: 6-3-0 with $583,580 in earnings since the current meet began Dec. 26. Since he started his riding career in 2002, the native of Puerto Rico has 1,544 wins with $53,702,291 in purse money, according to Equibase.
