TVG's Scott Hazelton, speaking Wednesday morning from Del Mar, where the races open this afternoon, reported multiple stakes winner Lady Aurelia has been retired.

"That's a wrap on a fantastic career," said Hazelton, who spoke to trainer Wesley Ward about the news.

The daughter of Scat Daddy was seventh last out in Royal Ascot's Group 1 King's Stand on June 19. The two years prior there, she had won the 2017 King's Stand and in 2016 produced a breakout performance as a 2-year-old by taking the Group 2 Queen Mary.

As with many of Ward's precocious starters, Lady Aurelia, a Stonestreet homebred, debuted at Keeneland and also won a stakes race there. She competed once in the Breeders' Cup, finishing 10th in last year's Turf Sprint at Del Mar.

Hazelton said connections insist Lady Aurelia is "completely sound." She now sizes up as a top broodmare prospect given the late Scat Daddy's success with runners such as Triple Crown winner Justify.
