Report: Journalism's dam Mopotism dies of colic complications
Mopotism, the dam of Preakness winner Journalism, died after complications from colic at age 11.
Owner Don Alberto Corp. confirmed the death to Thoroughbred Daily News.
Sired by Undle Mo, Mopotism had a career record of 26: 3-5-6 and $876,090 in earnings. Her only graded-stakes win came in the La Cañada (G2) in 2018.
Journalism, by Curlin, was her first foal. Her second foal, 2-year-old Nitro Tap, by Tapit, sold for $1.5 million as a yearling to Flying Dutchman. She also foaled a yearling filly daughter of Into Mischief and a 2-month old filly by Flightline, according to the TDN report.
Journalism has a record of 8: 5-2-1 and earnings of $3,198,880, with four graded-stakes wins, including the Grade 1 Santa Anita, and runner-up efforts in the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes. He's entered in Saturday's Haskell (G1) at Monmouth Park.
He sold as a yearling for $825,000 to a group that includes Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners and Don Alberto Corp., which bred the colt.
