Report: Journalism is under consideration for Met Mile
After running third in the Grade 2 Oaklawn Handicap, Journalism may shorten up for the Grade 1 Met Mile.
Journalism came out of the Oaklawn Handicap in good order according to a report from Mary Rampellini in Daily Racing Form. Trainer Michael McCarthy plans to settle the 2025 Preakness winner back into his routine at Santa Anita, and "give some thought to the Met Mile."
The Met Mile will be run at Saratoga again in 2026 as the renovation at Belmont continues. The race is scheduled for June 6, on the undercard of the Belmont Stakes. Journalism has only run a flat mile once in his career: he broke his maiden in a dirt mile at Del Mar at second asking, in November of 2024.
The Oaklawn Handicap was Journalism's 4-year-old debut, his first start since running fourth behind Forever Young in the Breeders' Cup Classic. After prompting leader Sovereignty and remaining in contention to midstretch, he flattened late to finish third, 3 1/4 lengths behind White Abarrio and 1 1/4 behind runner-up Sovereignty.
