Report: Jockey suspended after positive methamphetamine test
Indiana Grand stewards, according to the Daily Racing Form, have suspended jockey C.J. McMahon 30 days after he tested positive for methamphetamine on Sept 26, a day he had one mount at the track in Shelbyville, Ind.
McMahon started his suspension Tuesday and must pass a drug test before riding again, per the report. His agent told DRF that McMahon will return to the Kentucky circuit and ride next month at Churchill Downs after the suspension.
While methamphetimine positives can occur from ingesting over-the-counter medications, the DRF report did not indicate that McMahon appealed the ruling.
As a result, McMahon is also not riding this week at Keeneland, where he most recently guided Factory of Faith to a 9th-place finish in Sunday’s Grade 1 Juddmonte Spinster Stakes. McMahon has won 798 of his 5,022 career starts — a 15 percent clip — with his mounts tallying earnings of more than $16 million, according to Equibase.
