Jockey Mauro Cedillo was in intensive care Tuesday after a fall at Thistledown on Monday, according to multiple new reports.

Cedillo's agent Luis Quinones told ThoroughbredDailyNews, which first reported the story, that the jockey was on a ventilator at MetroHealth Cleveland Heights Medical Center.

Daily Racing Form quoted Quinones in an update posted Tuesday afternoon as saying that Cedillo remained in serious condition and on the ventilator to assist his breathing but had moved his legs.

Doctors were continuing to conduct a battery of tests, DRF reported, and family and friends gathered at the hospital were awaiting results.

“There’s not much I can tell you right now,” Quinones told the publication. “Everything is still the same as this morning. He’s on the ventilator but he’s moving his legs.”

The remainder of Monday's card was canceled after the spill in the first race.

According to the Equibase chart of the $12,200 claiming race, Cedillo’s horse Spectacular Road, a 10-year-old gelding, “made the lead soon after the start, set the pace in the two path, stumbled entering the turn and unseated his rider.” The dirt track was muddy and sealed for the 5 1/2-furlong race.

One replay posted to social media appeared to show Spectacular Road taking a misstep, tossing Cedillo onto the track where he tumbled and may have been hit by trailing horses before he rolled toward the rail.

The horse appeared to be uninjured.

BloodHorse reported that Cedillo, a native of Guatemala, is the cousin of Southern California-based rider Abel Cedillo and the nephew of trainer Jacinto Lopez.

He has been riding in the U.S. since last year, compiling a record of 791: 101-106-105, with his mounts compiling earnings of more than $2.1 million, according to Equibase statistics. He was the leading rider at the fall meet at Mahoning Valley in Youngstown, Ohio, with 33 victories.
